A Golden Moment for Our Founder

Jamie Baulch Recognised as 1997 World Champion

At BIDAID, we’ve always known that our founder, Jamie Baulch, is a champion – both on the track and through the incredible work he does for charitable causes around the world. Now, the world of athletics has officially recognised what we’ve long celebrated: Jamie is a World Champion.

This past weekend, Jamie and his teammates from the Great Britain & Northern Ireland 4x400m relay squad were finally awarded the gold medals they earned back in 1997, in a moving ceremony at the Novuna London Athletics Meet.

It’s been 27 years since the team – Roger Black, Iwan Thomas, Jamie Baulch, Mark Richardson, and Mark Hylton (who ran in the heats) – crossed the line second at the World Athletics Championships in Athens. But in the years since, the American team that finished ahead of them was disqualified following an anti-doping violation.

That disqualification meant one thing: Team GB were the rightful world champions all along.

On Saturday, in front of a home crowd at the London Stadium, World Athletics President Lord Sebastian Coe presented the long-overdue medals in a ceremony that included the playing of the national anthem; a moment filled with pride, justice, and deep emotion.

“We’re proud to be able to give these athletes their moment in front of a home crowd,” said Cherry Alexander, UK Athletics’ strategic lead for Major Events. “This medal means even more because of how long they’ve waited for it.”

A Champion On and Off the Track

Jamie Baulch’s achievements on the track have always been inspirational. An Olympic silver medallist and now confirmed World Champion, he remains one of Britain’s most decorated 400m athletes. But we’re just as proud of everything he’s achieved beyond sport.

Through BIDAID, Jamie has helped raise millions of pounds for charities and non-profits across the globe. His passion for giving back drives everything we do – connecting good causes with supporters through our all-inclusive silent auction platform.

Whether helping schools, sports foundations, medical charities or local community projects, Jamie’s belief in the power of generosity, fairness and teamwork continues to shape the mission of BIDAID.

A Moment to Celebrate

This medal ceremony isn’t just a personal victory for Jamie, it’s a reminder of the values we stand for as a company: integrity, perseverance, and making a difference.

Please join us in congratulating Jamie and the entire 1997 relay team. They waited nearly three decades for this moment, and they did so with dignity and determination.

We couldn’t be prouder.
